Many of the campers at Camp Half-blood, including Charlotte herself, were slightly confused when she was claimed by Apollo, as she never had much talent in music or poetry like her other siblings. Still, it quickly became clear that she was in fact his offspring, displaying exceptionally powerful abilities at an early age. Young Charlotte had trouble controlling many of her powers at first, but with constant training and focus, she was able to become one of the more talented demigods at camp, rivaling even some children of the big three.
Biokinesis
One of the first powers Charlotte displayed was the ability to heal wounds and alter the body. She often made it her job to tend to other campers’ injuries after games of capture the flag, and spent lots of time infirmary for sick demigods as well. Around age fourteen, Char’s abilities started to grow stronger. It started merely with the manipulation of her own eye color, but it soon turned into something dangerous and hard to control. She started to become frightened of her own abilities, as her attempts at healing turned into creating diseases and unwillingly controlling other people’s blood (hemokinesis). Chiron, seeing as Charlotte was on the brink of a true mental breakdown, began to train her himself so that she could learn to control her powers once again.
Photokinesis
Charlotte also possessed the ability to control light in certain ways. At first, she merely could manipulate light waves and create illusions or blind opposing campers during a game of capture the flag. As she got stronger, however, she was able to condense photons together and create a ball of light that she could directly blast at enemies.
Precognition
Although not strong, Char showed a slight ability to see into future events. They typically came to her via dream, and were rather vague, but proved useful from time-to-time, especially as the battle against Kronos drew nearer.
Archery
Despite her choice of weapon being a double-sided spear, Charlotte took up archery within her first few weeks at camp and proved to be an outstanding marksman, much like her other siblings. She is often found at the archery field when she is upset or needs to blow-off steam, as it helps her relax and concentrate her worries into her arrows.
For most of her life, Charlotte Merlo had been stuck between who she was and who she wanted to be. Her childhood that was composed of a cold, apathetic mother and constant movement ensured that Charlotte had no ability to make friends or express her emotions in a healthy way. As a result, Charlotte started to build walls up since she was as young as she could remember, not knowing who or what could bring them down. After arriving at camp at the age of nine, she slowly but surely began to form real bonds with other campers and evolve into the Charlotte that she always desired to be, even with all of the flaws that came with it.
Headstrong, Stubborn, Impulsive
When Charlotte has her mind set on something, it is nearly impossible to pull her away. She is firm in her beliefs and confident in what she wants, making for a quick-tempered and fiery girl. She often acts without thinking of the consequences, not being one to hesitate when defending a friend both with her words and her fists. Her hot headed attitude can engulf her at times, making it hard for her to back down from a fight or challenge.
Realistic, Closed-off, Withdrawn
Charlotte has always been a definite realist when it comes to relationships and love, being known to run away from her feelings instead of confronting them. She tends to bottle-up her emotions until it becomes unbearable, eventually devolving into a breakdown of some sort. She is reluctant to share many of her deeper emotions out of fear that it would make her vulnerable and weak-willed. She withdraws herself when she feels she is becoming romantically attached to someone, the reason why she is more likely to have flings rather than committed relationships, although there are several exceptions. Once she finally starts to let herself be vulnerable around those she loves, it becomes her mission to improve and become a better person not just for herself, but for the people who never gave up on her.
Compassionate, Loyal, Self-less
While it takes long for Char to warm-up and trust others, once she does she is an entirely different person than what she appears to be on the outside. She is tremendously kind to those she cares for, constantly going out of her own way to ensure that they are safe and happy. Her stubborn attitude ensures that she never gives up on her friends and she remains loyal to them until the end. Her value on loyalty is what keeps her from joining Kronos, because although she too has her own grudges against the gods, she’d rather fight with her fellow campers and defend them to her dying breath.
Witty, Charming, Lively
Typical for an Apollo child, Charlotte is often full of life and passion. She is always quick to make a sarcastic comment or playful joke, usually with good intention. She’s constantly striving to bring up the spirit in a room, and is especially invigorating when it comes to parties or other camp gatherings. She knows just how to cater to other people’s needs, particularly when one needs a night out or an impulsive trip to let go of their worries. Charlotte is bright and flowing with energy at her highs; however, that means she at times hit lows that are insufferably dark and uncontrollable.
